Artisanal Batik Silk Fashion From Bali

Quarzia was founded in 2005 with a vision to create handcrafted silk clothing that embodies both enduring quality and effortless style.

Rooted in textile design and inspired by the rich history of batik, our aesthetic is a unique fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern batik fashion. With a distinct Italian influence, Quarzia redefines elegance through minimal silhouettes, bold contemporary patterns, and expressive colour palettes, all brought to life by our artisans using original tools and age-old techniques.

The Heritage of Batik

Batik is one of Asia’s great art forms, reaching its artistic peak in Java, Indonesia. Once a pastime of aristocratic women, its motifs carried deep cultural meaning, symbolising lineage and status. Over centuries, batik evolved into a living tradition, enriched by the diverse cultures of the Indonesian archipelago. At Quarzia, we honour this legacy by giving batik a contemporary voice— preserving its artistry while reimagining it for the modern world.

The Quarzia Aesthetic

Our designs strike a balance between structured silhouettes and fluid draping, resulting in garments that are luxurious, timeless, and modern. Inspired by the natural beauty around us, our hand-drawn motifs echo organic lines and curves — graphic interpretations of nature that play with scale, proportion, and negative space. Enlarged to near abstraction, these patterns create bold, iconic shapes that have become the Quarzia signature.

Quarzia pieces embody luxury resortwear made in Bali, created for women who seek elegance that moves effortlessly from daily life to travel, from city moments to seaside escapes. From limited edition silk dresses to versatile separates, each piece radiates individuality while celebrating the art of slow fashion.

THE ART OF MAKING

Every piece begins with canting, a delicate pen-like tool with a bamboo handle and copper spout or with the cap, an intricate copper stamp. Hot wax is applied with precision to resist dye, before layers of colour are hand-painted to create depth and vibrancy. Once the wax is lifted, the fabric is transformed into garments by a single artisan, who carefully stitches each silk piece using a blend of hand and machine sewing. This mindful, small-batch process allows for subtle adjustments, ensuring the perfect fit and finish - something mass production can never achieve.
